University of Wisconsin Madison Neuroscience and Public Policy

Timeline

The Master's degree program in Public Policy and the Ph.D. degree program in Neuroscience will begin at the same time. The MPA program will be completed in two or three years, the Ph.D. program in five to six years. Below is a sample outline of what a typical course of study might look like. The precise order of courses is flexible depending on availability of desired courses and timing of neuroscience research activities. For more information about course requirements, see the Curriculum page.

* Students would select from a list of courses currently offered in the area of science and technology policy.
** Students would select from a list of courses currently offered in the area of law, ethics, and biology.
*** This course, described below, would involve the preparation of a major research paper in neuroscience and public policy carried out over the course of the student’s first four semesters. Students will be required to take the seminar throughout their degree program, but will be able to count only 4 credits toward the MPA degree.
